Would it be better to use a DVD recorder to transfer my VHS rather than an external hard drive - eSATA, USB 2?
All of my VHS tapes to go much space and they no longer really make a VHS player and I do not want to lose my movies.
"Better" is the importance of what going to do with videos. Are you going to play them on a DVD player or store information for future generations? the best way to store video information through a video capture card (or box) and move information about your computer's hard drive. Do a Web search for "video capture card", has little choice. When the hard disk, you can either transfer them to an external hard disk or DVDs.using burn them to a DVD burner and software. Most of the people to film videos to DVD. In some places, like Costco & Walgreens will make this payment. Call the local camera store, Costco, Walgreens, Riteaid, etc., and see if they offer a video-DVD transfer services, and to find out how much they charge. Small, large capacity hard drives are relatively inexpensive. You can buy a pocket-sized hard drive that holds 250 GB or more. Many people now store movies and videos compressed file format such as DivX. This method allows you to maintain a large number of videos on one disk. (You'll need to use computer or one of the newer DVD players play them.) I am told by a friend who is a professional photographer and film director, that he prefers to keep his videos to your hard drive. He has told me that some of his earlier work, which burn a DVD is impaired with age. According to him, miniDV Hard Drives are the best way to store important video. I use all 3 media recording important information. These videos are stored on MiniDV tape. Then copied to the uncompressed external hard drive, "raw" video. (large file). Finally, they burned to DVD so they can be easily repeated independent actors. I even pressed some of the files in order to fit on a memory card and play your cellphone.
